Who we admit, what that decision is based on, and who to complain to if you believe we got it wrong. Including complaining about us.

Daraan Assisted Living does not discriminate on the basis of race, colour, religion, sex, national origin, disability or familial status. This applies to admission, to the care and services a resident receives, and to how anyone is treated in this house.
What admission actually turns on
One question: can we meet this person's care needs safely, alongside the residents already here.
That is the whole test. We publish what we can take on and what we decline on the care and services page, and we say no on the first call rather than after a tour. A no from us is always about clinical scope or capacity, and never about who somebody is.
What this covers
- Fair housing
- Assisted living is housing, and the federal Fair Housing Act applies to it. So does the Texas Fair Housing Act. Both prohibit discrimination in the sale or rental of a dwelling, and both prohibit advertising that indicates a preference or limitation based on a protected characteristic.
- Faith and culture
- We accommodate religious and cultural practice in detail, and the page describing that is a list of things we will do for residents who ask. It is not a statement about who this home is for. We are not affiliated with any religious organisation, and there is no religious test of any kind for admission.
- Disability
- Our residents have disabilities; that is the nature of the work. Where we can meet somebody's needs, a disability is never a reason to decline. Where a need genuinely exceeds what we are able to provide, we will explain exactly which need and why, and help you find the right level of care.
- Dignity in Texas law
- Texas law gives an older adult the right to be treated with dignity and respect without regard to race, religion, national origin, sex, age, disability, marital status or source of payment, and the right to communicate in their own language. We treat those as a floor rather than a target.
- Payment is not a protected characteristic, and we are private pay
- To be straightforward about one real limit: we are a private-pay home and do not accept Medicaid. That is a limitation on funding, not on people, and we say so on the paying for care page. If Medicaid is your only route we will point you toward providers who accept it.

- Housing discrimination
- The US Department of Housing and Urban Development takes fair housing complaints on 1-800-669-9777. The Texas Workforce Commission Civil Rights Division handles complaints under the Texas Fair Housing Act.
- Anything about our care or conduct
- Texas Health and Human Services takes complaints about any care facility in the state on 1-800-458-9858.
- The ombudsman
- The Texas Long-Term Care Ombudsman is independent of every provider, ours included, and advocates for residents rather than for facilities: 1-800-252-2412.
