Is it time? Here is what usually tips it.
Most families call after one of these, not before. If two or three sound familiar, it is worth a conversation.
- There has been a fall, or a near miss nobody wants to talk about.

Round-the-clock supervision takes three shifts. One person cannot do it.
That is arithmetic, not a verdict on how much you love her. Most families arrive having spent months failing at something that was never possible.
It is a house. That turns out to matter.
Most assisted living happens in buildings designed as institutions: long corridors, a nursing station, staff who rotate. Daraan is a house in a Conroe neighbourhood, modified to state safety code, a short drive from The Woodlands, Spring, Willis and Montgomery.
- The same faces every day. Nobody re-introduces herself to a new aide each shift.
- Changes get noticed early. A caregiver with a handful of residents sees the smaller appetite. One with twenty does not.
- You reach a decision-maker. The people who run the home answer the phone.
What the monthly rate covers
Every level includes all of it. The level only changes how much hands-on help someone needs.
- Personal care
- Bathing, dressing, grooming and toileting, at whatever level of independence someone still has.
- Medication
- Administered and recorded on schedule, in direct contact with the prescribing doctor and the pharmacy. No separate medication fee.
- Meals
- Three a day plus snacks, cooked in the kitchen down the hall. Diabetic, low-sodium, soft and pureed diets, allergies and religious requirements. Everyone eats together.
- Nights
- Someone awake and on duty, which is when a great many incidents actually happen.
- Memory
- Reminders, escort service and close supervision for short-term memory loss, confusion or forgetfulness. We do not provide specialised Alzheimer's care and do not run a memory care unit.
- Alongside you
- We schedule around outside home health, therapists, hospice teams and physicians, and share what we see.
Does a small home cost more?
Not once the care is priced in. Communities advertise a base rent, then bill the care on top. Here is the same resident, priced both ways.

How we built this. The base rent is a published starting rate for an assisted living community in Conroe. The level-of-care and medication figures are standard industry add-on tiers. Every community prices differently, so ask any place you tour for a complete written fee schedule, including what happens when care needs increase. That is the honest way to compare, and we are happy to be compared.

For discharge planners and case managers
Daraan takes residents who are not safe going home but do not need a nursing facility. Call and describe the patient: we confirm scope, level and availability in one conversation, and say no plainly when someone is outside our scope.
Not appropriate for admission
- Bedbound residents needing total skilled nursing care
- Anyone requiring 24-hour licensed nursing supervision
- Severe behavioural or psychiatric conditions needing specialised placement
Publishing what we cannot do is why referrers come back.
Straight answers
The room, three home-cooked meals a day plus snacks, housekeeping, laundry, awake overnight staff, medication management, and the hands-on care described in your level. The only routine add-on is incontinence care at +$500/mo, and only where it applies. There is a one-time $2,500 admission fee covering the deposit and onboarding. Scale, and who is there at night. Large communities typically run one caregiver to eight residents, and some go considerably higher. We run approximately one caregiver to two residents, in a house, with the same small team, and someone awake overnight. There is more on what that changes day to day on the daily life page.
Medicare does not cover assisted living room, board or personal care, here or anywhere else. It covers short-term skilled nursing or rehabilitation after a qualifying hospital stay. Daraan is private pay and we do not accept Medicaid. Many families use long-term care insurance or VA Aid and Attendance; there is more on the paying for care page, including what to do if Medicaid is your only realistic route.
Residents who are permanently bedfast or require total skilled nursing care, anyone requiring 24-hour licensed nursing supervision, and residents with severe behavioural or psychiatric conditions requiring specialised placement. We will tell you this on the first call rather than after a tour. Being clear about the no's is what makes the yes's worth anything.
